Default RE: RE:

Just a heads up on the engines that are sold by Hobby King, I have not seen any of
them as of yet but have read that their service is nil on everything they sell so be
prepared for extra spending if something goes wrong. Here are few suggestions for
gas engines, the Mentor 22 is an Italian made engine and has quality far superior to
anything from China and the price is right: http://www.topdawgaviation.com/index...&product_id=53
or if you want a quality Chinese product with vendor support then look at the JC Evo
line of engines from Ibecinyourc: http://www.ibcinyourc.com/store.php?...815&pd=4834334
I just happen to own the Mentor 22 which is going to be my choice for my Nosen 310
or if the weight is a little on the high side I have the JC Evo 30 I will be using, both are
great engines in my opinion and I have had no problems with either engine, easy starting
and easy to adjust and run. Now all I have to do is get the build on the go to see which one
I'll need to buy another of, might just buy both as I really like these two.

Welcome Texasgrandpa

Here is another option for gas motors http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...e-engines.html
They are very good and service is right here in the USA. I have one on a Giant wildstick.
On my 310 I have Homelite 25cc Bandits, Plenty of power and my bird weights in at 32Lbs
currently in the process of installing retracts (from HobbyKing) There is a video of mine posted a ways back.
Good Luck with your 310, you will like it.

I have to agree with you on the SV line of motors, That is the best pricing
I have ever seen on them, I have both a SV-26 & SV-50 twin, haven't run
either on of them but I paid a lot more than what Value Hobby has them
listed for. I have a very good friend from north Louisiana that has the 26
in an old KMP P-47, says he really likes the motor a lot. The 50 twin is for
my Nosen Mr. Mulligan that I have partially built. All in all it really depends
on what fits the budget or personal preference.

Cliff how is the retract installation going, thanks for posting pics of the transition.
Is the quality of the Hobby King retracts from their giant scale T-28 Trojan as good
as what the pics on the web make them look? Just went back and looked at the
previous post that you made on the retacts, boy they look a dead ringer for Robarts,
probably a good copy of them...........

Hello Bill

Mains are almost done, Axles are cut to fit both are temporary mounted, Need to drill and bolt them in, then run airlines, Etc.
I find them to be very well made, all metal and very smooth operation. I will get them finished this month then fly it for the rest of the year.
Next winter I will enclose the inside of the wheel wells and make covers for them, 3/4 will be mounted to the strut and a short flap style door
to finish enclosing them. The flap will close when the wheel retracts into the wing well and be spring loaded to open. Will post updated Pics soon.
Hope you get back up to speed and finish yours. The front will be 3 piece 1 on the strut in front and 2 side doors that close with the wheel.
Thats the plane anyway, Just picked up a OV-10 bronco with twin OS .25's and finished that, maidened it about 3 weeks ago.

Thanks Bill for your warm welcome - as outlined to Bill in my initial email, I first sawa modelTF C310 early 80's built by two brothers and it flew and looked great, but as can happen ithad a short lived life but I stuck that image in the back of my mind and thought "maybe one day" - you know how it goes.

Fast forward to 3 months ago and I was watchingone of our local websites and came across a set of Robart Retracts for sale at a price I didn't mind paying for themodels 158 and 152 to fit a large scale model, but I had no idea which one it was for. With a bit of research I learned these retracts were for a Cessna 310. 100 degree noseleg and 85 degree mains - that long ago memoryof the C310 resurfaced.

With more research I found this RCUthread and thought - well here's the place to learn something. I thenbought a set of Bud Nosen C310 plans from a website and just for interest sake also bought a set of Wendell Hostetler plans for comparison. Little did I know that one set of plans was for the C310G and the other C310R.

So as an introductory, my question is - whichmodel C310are these Robart 158 and 152 designed for. If they were designed for the Bud Nosen C310G then that's probably the way to go, as so far what I've read here that is what this thread was intendedfor - however if they also suit the Hostetler C310R that gives me food for thought, as Hostetler sell fibreglass parts for their plans that will save me a lot of work.

Any info and/or advice on which way to go from anyof you dedicated C310modelerswould be most welcome.

cheers - maxiemac - smile, it don't hurt

Welcome to the club! As far as I know, those are the correct ones for the Nosen kit. Robart also has them listed as being for the Nosen model as well. Instead of going with the Hosstettler fiberglass, you could get the best of both worlds and go with a G &L hobbies fiberglass fuse. It was designed around the Nosen kit with slight changes.

If you come across another set of those retracts, or would like to part with your set, please let me know. I've been looking for a set for my 310 for a while. The landing gear is the last big purchase before I feel comfortable starting the build.

Good luck and Cheers

James

Has anyone actually flown their 310 with the Hobby King retracts? I am about to get real serious and go to G&L hobbies to pick up my glass parts, and would like to order a set of the retracts as soon as they have them back in stock, b ut I'd like to make sure they are definately up to task before hand if I could. I have a Nosen 310 kit, so I'll be using the wings and tail from that, and adding the glass parts. And a wonderful pair of OS 108 FSR's to make her sound real nice!

Well, I'm excited to say I placed my order for the G&L parts, and am going to drive down and pick them up once Greg gets them laid up. I already have the two OS 108 FSR setups I purchesed from another club member here, so I'll just need retracts then. I have the Nosen kit for the wings and tail. I think I'm going with the Hobby King retracts, but they are out of stock right now, so I'll have to wait. Getting closer!

OK, and away we go! Made the trip today down to G&L Hobbies and picked up my fiberglass kit, along with several other things I was able to talk Greg out of! Greg is a great guy, and I enjoyed talking to him. Nice parts too! This thing is huge! Can't wait to get a set of retracts and get started building this beast!

Hey Warbirdman
Have not been working on the retracts lately, however i am planning on getting them finished as we have our open house in Sept
and Plan on flying her. The mains are almost done, just need to put bolts in it and run airlines.
Nose gear should be easy as I think it had retracts at one time since the fuse is set-up for the install or maybe it was the intention of
the former owner? Any way once I finish i will make a video of them.

Hello All
An update on the HK giant scale retracts, I have them installed and they seem strong enough for a grass field (that's what I fly on) one problem
I have the mains flush mounted. And the Nose gear is in but when retracted 1/2 of the wheel is sticking out. Now I could recess the nose gear to fully enclose
the wheel, but then the nose would be too low as it is now I need to make at least a 1" spacer to the strut to get the nose up for clearance of props
Degree angles are perfect nose gear is foward and mains are vertical when mounted. I will get some Picture soon and post.

Cliff what is the length of the Hobby King nose strut from the pivot at the top of the
unit to the centerline of the axle, the Robart unit is 10", sound like you may be a little
short on the strut length of the T-28 strut. I'll mesure the unit that I have at the house
when I get home this evening.

Cliff the Spring Air's that I have are 11 1/8" from upper pivot c/l to c/l of the
axle and the mains are 8". The nose unit is a belly mount.

Just thought I would bring this to the clubs attention:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/gian...l#post11684423

What a loss to the modeling community, such a great man, way ahead of his time with his designs.
